Santa Claus and Elvis are radio theater headliners

Lakes Area Theatre (LAT) in Alexandria is offering the following productions this week:

ON STAGE It’s five days to Christmas, and things do not look good at the North Pole. All Santa’s reindeer have the flu. When Melvin the elf shows Santa his plans for building a mechanical reindeer, the hope of delivering presents on time spurs everyone into action.

But can the reindeer fly, and will they last the entire worldwide route? Find out about Santa’s and Melvin’s Christmas miracle Friday, November 15 at 7 p.m. at LAT.

How Melvin Saved Christmas was written by Massachusetts playwright Mike Murphy, directed by Claudia Bursch and stars Kevin Lee, Ben Klipfel, Irene Pratt, Scott and Carolyn Giannone, Kip Sundlee, Christy Meier, Kent Garlinghouse (sound effects) and Jamie Sandberg (sound effects). Music is by Bob Piotrowski.

ON THE AIR The year is 1958 and Elvis Presley is in the Army. My Cruise with Elvis is a part autobiographical, mostly fictional account of playwright Bob Sievers’ crossing of the North Atlantic on the same transport as Elvis.

Directed by Sievers, the show stars Joe Korkowski, Bruce Wegner, Kevin Lee, Scott Giannone and Carolyn Giannone. Music was by Bob Piotrowski, with the Giannones performing the sound effects.

The show will be broadcast on Sunday, November 17 on KXRA 1490
