Flu shot clinics offered for eligible veterans

The Department of Veterans Affairs is offering flu shot options for veterans, including walk-in flu vaccine clinics twice this month at the Max J. Beilke VA Clinic, 515 22nd Ave E. in Alexandria.

The clinics, planned for 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, and Friday, Oct. 27, do not require an appointment. The clinics are open only for enrolled veterans.

Veterans may also receive flu shots during any scheduled VA appointment. As well, the Department of Veterans Affairs has teamed up with Walgreens Pharmacies nationwide to allow all veterans enrolled in the VA healthcare system to present a Veterans Health Identification Card and a photo ID at Walgreens for a free vaccination.

After the Walgreens pharmacist administers the vaccine, the store will transmit that information securely to VA where it becomes part of the patient's electronic medical record.

Veterans getting vaccinated outside the VA or through Walgreens are asked to provide that information at their next VA appointment.
