Evansville showcases area quilters
Quilts pieced by area crafters will be on display at the Evansville Art Center through Saturday, May 27.
The exhibit includes new quilts, cherished old quilts, traditional patterns and modern applique.
Quilting historically provided a creative outlet and practical use for worn clothes and feed sacks which were cut and patched together into quilt blocks. After they were layered with old blankets and backed with old sheets and tied or hand stitched, they became quilts.
Quilting techniques have changed dramatically over time. The gallery showcases the enduring creative spirit.
The gallery, at 111 Main St. NW, is open Fridays and Saturdays, 10 am to 2 pm. The quilts may also be seen by appointment by phoning Karen Howell at (218) 948-2836 or (703) 994-8215.
This activity is supported by a grant from the Lake Region Arts Council through a Minnesota State Legislative appropriation.
