Ride for Healing rallies slated in Alexandria and Osakis
Alexandria and Osakis are two of many stops along the 2013 Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Minnesota State Commanders project Ride for Healing, slated to take place the week of May 27 to June 1.
The event will kick off at the Minnesota state capital in St. Paul, where four teams of classic cars and motorcycles will begin a journey to the four corners of the state, visiting local VFW posts along the way.
They will spend the next four days on the road visiting 60 communities that are arranging their own ceremonies, including Alexandria and Osakis. Veterans and the communities are invited to join the rallies and celebrations.
A team will arrive in Alexandria on Thursday, May 30 at 12:30 p.m. for a lunch and rally at VFW Post 936.
The team will leave Alexandria at 2 p.m. to attend a rally in Osakis at 3 p.m. at George H. Elliott VFW Post 7902.
The state VFW commander, Lee Ulferts, is a Vietnam veteran and has chosen Ride for Healing as a fundraising event for the Vietnam Education Center in Washington, D.C.
Vietnam veterans will be recognized and honored for their service throughout the state.
The public will have a chance to contribute to the building of a Vietnam Veterans Museum at the wall in Washington, D.C.
All of the money for the museum must be raised by private funds.
The teams will end the ride and meet up in the Brainerd Lake Area on May 31.
