Rudy Zwieg Decoy Show set for March 16

The ninth annual Rudy Zwieg Decoy Show will be held Saturday, March 16 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Runestone Community Center in Alexandria.

More than 3,000 people are expected to attend the event, which is sponsored by the Midstate Chapter of the Minnesota Darkhouse and Angling Association.

The event is free and open to the public. It will feature carving competitions, seminars, silent auctions, vendors, children's face painting, and more.

There will be tanks on hand for swim testing fish, for those interested in buying and for the The National Fish Decoy Association National Carving Competition.

Members of the Alexandria Junior Viking Sportsmen joined the MidState Darkhouse and Angling Association in creating decoys that will be judged. 

A northern pike fish decoy carved by the 2013 Mid-State Carver of the Year, Snook Barrett of Osakis, will be auctioned off, along with other prizes. Raffle tickets will be sold at the event. 

Another raffle will be held for a knife made by Gabe Pipo of Garfield, which features an engraved northern and custom case.

Seminars will include:

--Tim Spreck, State Darkhouse and Angling president, will speak on issues facing fishermen in the Legislature.

--Rick Whittier, master artist from North Dakota, will talk on making decoys. 

--Jay Leitch, retired North Dakota State University Dean, will speak on his book, Darkhouse Spearing Across North America. 

--Absolute Outdoor from Sauk Rapids will demonstrate outdoor equipment.

--Walleye legend Pete Harsh, known as "Mr. Tiller," will do a seminar on walleye fishing tips/techniques. Harsh is a two-time Angler of the Year honoree, 13-time walleye tournament winner, and all time record holder for the most Big Fish Awards on the Professional Walleye Trail.

--Carvers Harley Ragan and Casey Edwards will also be on hand.
