Hospital to offer childbirth classes

The Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria will host childbirth classes throughout 2013.

The sessions will cover topics such as labor and delivery, breathing and relaxation, comfort measures and labor support, interventions and medications, tour of the birthplace, postpartum and baby cares and car seat education.

The four-class series will be offered Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. as follows:

--January 22, 29; February 5, 12

--March 12, 19; April 2, 9

--August 6, 13, 20, 27

--October 8, 15, 22, 29

One-day Saturday classes are also offered from 8:30 to 4 p.m. as follows:

--March 2

--April 27

--May 18

--June 15

--July 13

--September 21

--November 16

Couples are recommended to attend childbirth classes in the third trimester of pregnancy. Bring two pillows and a blanket. The classes are $100 per couple.

The classes will be held at the Douglas County Hospital, north and south conference rooms on the lower level, 111 17th Avenue East.
