Central Lakes Music Club honors graduates
The teachers of the Central Lakes Music Club hosted a reception to honor their graduating high school seniors at the Grand Arbor Theatre in Alexandria on Wednesday, May 30.
There were 17 students who had taken piano lessons through their senior year in high school and 10 were able to attend the reception - Spencer Brand, student of Becky Worley; Jordan Arel and Alex Blaser, students of Marcia Benson; Jayne Haglin and Serena Stoeck, students of Ruth Aaseng; Ellen Lanman and Benjamin VonBargen, students of Karen Erickson; Jordyn Anderson, student of Annette Helder; Patrick Wagner, student of Kristi Wussow; and Courtney Lahr, student of Mercedes Hagen.
They each received a certificate and a gift in recognition of their commitment to music through the years.
Each student was asked to write some thoughts about "What Music Means to Me." Some of their responses included the following:
Music is: fun, a way to express oneself beyond words, a way to uplift one's spirits, a form of worship to God, a way of life, a way to meet others, an addictive art of passion, and music is everything!
Teachers Annette Helder, Becky Worley, Karen Erickson, Marcia Benson and Ruth Aaseng presented a program of piano duets and a trio for the enjoyment of the audience of students, families and residents of Grand Arbor.
Central Lakes Music Club is an organization of private music teachers affiliated with the Minnesota and National Federation of Music Clubs. They group sponsors a music festival each winter for students to play memorized pieces and earn points toward a Gold Cup.
