Contest winners to give recital

After performing at the West District State Minnesota Music Teacher's Association (MMTA) Preliminary Piano Contest in January, the following students were invited to perform in a Winners' Recital on Sunday, March 4 at 6:30 p.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria.

They will be joined by winners of the Central Lakes Music Club Music Festival being held this coming Friday and Saturday.

Performers include Serena Stoeck, Alex Blaser, Ki Blaser, Amy Jacobson, Kristy Knutson, Scott Oeltjen, Camilla Bjorklund, Gabriel Sparby, Kevin Viratyosin, Tayvin Viratyosin, Acacia Wyckoff, Benjamin Von Bargen, Megan Richter, Katie Messner, Jordyn Anderson, Bethany Hellem, Andy Eerdman, William Eerdman, Hannah Fietek, Jacob Fietek, Hunter Mickelsen, Kyle Mickelsen, Emma Newton, Laura Orpen, Krista Matthews-Saugstad, Autumn Grasswick, Ellie Miron, Gabi Ross and Isabelle Hartokolis.

These students also have the opportunity to perform at the MMTA State Contest in Minneapolis March 10-11.

High scoring performers at that event are asked to play in a Piano Orchestra in May, where 20 pianos are onstage and groups of 40 students perform a wide variety of pieces.

Only about 1,500 students were chosen from the 4,000 who played statewide in January.

West District students listed are the students of the following teachers: Ruth Aaseng, Marcia Benson, Ann DuHamel, Karen Erickson, Alice Gronlund, Mitch Grussing, Annette Helder, Roxanne Klemetson and Wendy Lindlief.
