Historical society hosts writers' contest

The Douglas County Historical Society is hosting a writers' contest.

The society is seeking three scripts in which one or more writers will be awarded $1,500 per script.

These writing awards will be paid from a grant that the Douglas County Historical Society received from the Minnesota Historical Society's Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund/Legacy Grant program.

The contest entails writers submitting a synopsis on one or all of the three script categories, including the Great Depression, World War II and the post-war economic boom.

Full guidelines and script submission information are available electronically by e-mailing Ann Hermes at

The oral history transcripts on which the scripts will be written are available at the Douglas County Historical Society, 1219 Nokomis Street in Alexandria, or writers may request transcripts via e-mail from Rachel Barduson at

Writers will be allowed access to the recorded oral histories in researching their subjects and topics.

All submissions must be e-mailed to by January 7, 2011.
