A 2002 Farmington High School graduate is in stable condition and is preparing to be transported to Walter Reed Army Medical in Washington, D.C. after he was injured in an explosion in Afghanistan earlier this week.

Former Spruce Grove Township resident Herman A. Thiede, 103, of La Crosse, Wis., passed away Monday, January 12, 2009 at the Onalaska Care Center, holding the hands of his daughters.
A mass of Christian burial was held Thursday, Jan. 15 at St. James the Less Catholic Church in La Crosse, with the Rev. Delbert Malin officiating. Entombment was in the Catholic Cemetery, La Crosse.
