To help keep veterans healthy during the flu season, the St. Cloud VA Health Care System has scheduled several flu shot clinics this fall. Flu shots for veterans enrolled with the VA are free and an appointment is not necessary. The flu shots are available at the VA Medical Center in St. Cloud or any of the VA’s three clinics across central Minnesota.
This year, the U.S. is on pace to have the most cases of pertussis, or whooping cough, in five decades. There have been 18,000 reported cases this year, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Minnesota is one of the states reporting high numbers of the bacterial disease that is preventable by vaccines.
Physicians are letting patients know that this year’s flu shot is a two-for-one deal covering seasonal flu strains and H1N1.
