Last November, Sergeant Jesse Grabow of the State Patrol was at the right place at the right time to help rescue a driver from a sinking car near Alexandria.
On Monday, he was honored with the State Patrol Life Saving Award, along with a fellow trooper, Chris Halder, and a passerby, Aanders Jackson, at an awards ceremony in Eagan.
Minnesota State Troopers have been very busy throughout the New Years Eve weekend. From the time the winter storms started on Thursday, December 30, 2010 until today, Monday, January 3, 2011, troopers in the west central and northwest regions responded to approximately 621 vehicles that had ran off the road, many of those receiving minor damage.
Erick Sjodin is among a new breed of Minnesota State Patrol troopers. The married father of three spent years in other professions before he decided to apply skills he had learned to law enforcement. Nicholas Tabbert of Parkers Prairie said he and other cadets with law enforcement experience were able to share lessons they have learned with cadets new to the field.
