Every 45 seconds, someone in the U.S. has a stroke, which accounts for 795,000 victims each year.
While anyone can have a stroke, some factors can increase the risk, such as smoking, an unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, ethnicity, and family history of strokes.
It is also estimated that only 28 percent of stroke victims are younger than age 65.
Three Douglas County residents. Three types of cancer. Three survivors. One goal. The American Cancer Society’s 25th annual Relay for Life will take place this Friday, July 10 at Citizen’s Field in Alexandria.

Someplace Safe of Douglas and Pope counties is proud to present the first-ever “Unity Gala” planned for Friday, September 12.
The event, which will take place at the Lakeside Ballroom in Glenwood, is a fundraiser for Someplace Safe.
