No more zebra mussels found in Irene, Rose lakes, for now
Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) biologists and divers searched lake bottoms last week on the immediate surrounding areas where zebra mussels were discovered last fall on boat lifts on Lake Irene in Douglas County and Rose Lake in Otter Tail County.

Putting pressure on mussels
Douglas County commissioners added an extra tool to the county’s arsenal of zebra mussel weaponry at Tuesday’s board meeting.
Land and Resource Director Dave Rush’s request to purchase a decontamination unit from Mobile Washer in Alexandria was approved. The board’s decision is in line with the resolution passed last spring for the county to operate its own decontamination unit.

Zebra mussels found in Lake L'Homme Dieu
A local resident found a zebra mussel attached to a coffee can in the northeast corner of Lake L’Homme Dieu in Alexandria last week.
Mitch Gesell, who lives about two miles away from where the mussel was found, was out for a run and decided to stop at a friend’s house to take a swim.
