When Verna Peterson of Farwell was selected by the Douglas Soil Water Conservation District last August as the 2008 Outstanding Conservationist for Douglas County, little did she know that award would turn into an even bigger one.
As Thanksgiving approaches, my focus moves away from the garden and toward the hectic holiday season. Being a self-proclaimed “foodie,” my thoughts now are about what to prepare for the kick-off meal to the season. I was doing this last Sunday as I was preparing a pheasant soup and a thought occurred to me: Am I a gardener because I love to cook, or do I cook because I garden?

There is a provision in Minnesota statutes that allows the use of farm tractors for farm work without possessing a driver's license. Your ATV is not a farm implement even though you have registered in the farm class.

Specialty crop and organic producers in Minnesota can apply for scholarships to offset the cost of farm business management classes through a program offered by the Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) and several partners. Applications are now being accepted for 2009.
