The Toy Industry Foundation (TIF) recently launched a new program that lets kids, communities and companies make a stand – a lemonade stand – that will help give the gift of play to disadvantaged children around the country.
“Make a Stand for Kids” is a charity-based initiative that encourages young entrepreneurs to set up and run their own lemonade stand.
The 2012 KIDS COUNT Data book found that access to health care, food, jobs, and child care is limited in many regions throughout the state. When these resources do exist, many families are unable to afford them because their jobs do not pay sufficient wages or offer critical benefits.

Members of Let’s Go Fishing Kids hope to sign up at least 250 4th through 6th grade students in the Alexandria area to participate in this new program.
Reading throughout the summer can help maintain or improve children’s reading skills when school is no longer in session. But including reading into family summer activities in new, fun and exciting ways can be difficult.
