A 20-day work plan began on May 24 to move the Kensington Runestone Park entrance. An entirely new road has been cut through the wooded land. Factoring in rainy weather in early June, the project is expected to be wrapped up by the end of the month.
Many vestiges of our area’s past are gone forever. Historic buildings have been torn down, burned or fallen down. Main street businesses have either disappeared entirely or changed from pioneer to more modern functions. Some old structures have taken on new purposes because most in their original form would be impractical in the 21st century.
The Kensington Area Heritage Society will kick-off the 125th anniversary of the founding of the village at the society’s annual “History Day with Eleanor.”
Kensington, like many towns and villages throughout America, owes its existence to railroad construction.
According to law enforcement, no one was inside the residence at the time of the fire.
The home was a total loss. A vehicle parked near the house was also damaged.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
