As the morning fog lifted, smoke saturated the midday air on Easter Eve. Roman soldiers prepared to take a sizzling steak break during the annual Guarding of the Tomb reenactment at Zion Lutheran Church on 3rd Avenue in Alexandria.
Snow removal was well under way this past week as members of Zion Lutheran and Good Shepherd Lutheran churches of Alexandria cleared snow from yards, parking lots and sidewalks in preparation for this year’s Passion Drama.
Easter’s powerful message of hope, forgiveness and resurrection was retold in Alexandria this week.
On Sunday, a crowd of 1,552 flocked to the outdoor Passion Drama presented by Zion and Good Shepherd Lutheran churches.
Another 1,149 people attended Tuesday’s presentation, which put the total attendance at just over 2,701 – an exceptionally large turnout that easily surpassed last year’s crowd of 2,156, according to organizers.
With snow in the forecast, the weather may have scared off a few people, but the outdoor Passion Drama still attracted good-sized crowds in Alexandria on Sunday and Tuesday.
A total of 2,156 people turned out for both days of the event – the 15th annual. That’s a little down from previous years, like last year when temperatures hit 70 degrees for the Tuesday presentation, which helped boost the total attendance to nearly 2,900.
It is again the season of marshmallow chicks and jelly beans, and white lilies seem to appear overnight at our grocery and retail outlets. If you are considering bringing one home, or purchasing one for a friend, here are a few details about the ubiquitous Easter lily.
