Riding a bike is one of those things in life that can make you feel ageless.
A new bike program at Grand Arbor’s Nelson Wellness Center in Alexandria provides residents and members the opportunity to get on a bike again.
The wellness center received a grant from the UCare Fund last October to launch a year-round bike program.
Wheels are rolling ahead for older adults in Alexandria. The Knute Nelson Foundation was recently awarded a $33,286 grant from the UCare Fund. It will help introduce an innovative biking program that will assist older adults by matching varying needs and abilities with appropriate bicycles and encouraging focus on active aging and prevention techniques that empower individuals to lead healthy lifestyles.
People are realizing that in order to have healthy communities, areas have to be built and maintained in ways that promote walking, biking and other forms of physical activity. Increased levels of biking and walking would result in significant benefits in terms of health and physical fitness, the environment, and transportation-related effects.
