The second annual Denim Day for Douglas County will be on Wednesday, April 24. Someplace Safe invites the Alexandria area to wear denim to show their support for victims of sexual violence and their support against the victim-blaming myths that surround sexual assault.
A step in the right direction, and another, and another. Citizens, victims and survivors of domestic violence led the sixth annual Taking Steps Against Domestic Violence walk through Alexandria on Tuesday to raise awareness of the crime.
Organized in conjunction with Schutz Martial Arts Association and Someplace Safe, a conquering fear of violence course will take place on Wednesday, October 24 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Schutz Taekwondo Academy, Alexandria.
The countdown is on to the May 29 opening of the Someplace Safe Thrift Store in its new location at 801 County Road 44 NW (next to Casey’s gas station) in Alexandria.
Someplace Safe staff and volunteers are hard at work moving and setting up the new thrift store.
The Someplace Safe Board of Directors announced that they have selected Sheila Korby as the new executive director of Someplace Safe.
Korby has been with Someplace Safe for more than eight years and previously served as the director of program services, as well as interim executive director since October.
Throughout the month of March, Someplace Safe will be holding public thank you receptions across the region and the public is invited.
These events will be an opportunity for Someplace Safe workers to say thank you to the thousands of individuals – volunteers, donors, businesses, community groups, churches and others – who make their work possible
The Someplace Safe Thrift Store is relocating.
The new location will be at 801 County Road 44 NW, Suite 108, in Alexandria.
Someplace Safe is a non-profit organization serving victims of domestic violence by providing a 24-hour emergency shelter for battered women and their children, and outreach advocacy support for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and general crimes.
A charity garage sale to support the Mercy Orphanage Mission Trip and Someplace Safe will be held Saturday, August 27 at the Runestone Community Center in Alexandria from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Donations for this sale can be dropped off Friday, August 26 all day.
