Editorial - Consider being an election judge this November

Secretary of State Mark Ritchie issued a public service announcement last week asking Minnesotans to contact their local election officials and sign-up to serve as an election judge to help administer what he described as “the biggest election in the state’s history” this November 6, 2012.

Column - College students eat lots of Ramen noodles

I call them the "Ramen Shoppers." They never fail to fill me with sympathy and sadness. You can see them in the grocery stores of all college towns. They are typically between the ages of 19 and 24. Pushing their grocery carts down the aisles, they take time intently pondering the price of this or that item. Sometimes they linger in front of some shelf items with dreamy, hungry looks on their faces.

Editorial - A message to ATV drivers

As the weather heats up, so does the season for riding all terrain vehicles (ATVs). But it isn’t all fun in the sun. As with any vehicle, drivers assume a big responsibility when they turn the key. From 2007 to 2011, 82 Minnesotans were killed in ATV accidents. More than one-half of the fatal accidents involved an ATV rolling over, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

Commentary - Credit union debate a matter of equity

Someone in the press should be looking into questions such as these. An analogy would be if Chrysler and GM were allowed to offer any kind of vehicle to the general public – subcompacts, compacts, sedans, SUVs, etc., but they had to pay taxes on the cars they sell. However, Ford could only make sedans, nothing else, but, in exchange for the restriction, it would not have to pay taxes on the sedans they sell
