Editorial - Consider being an election judge this November
If you’re looking for a way to get involved in the political process beyond just voting, consider this option: Be an election judge. Secretary of State Mark Ritchie issued a public service announcement last week asking Minnesotans to contact their local election officials and sign-up to serve as an election judge to help administer what he described as “the biggest election in the state’s history” this November 6, 2012.May 23, 2012

Commentary - Credit unions support and strengthen communities
I am writing in response to a letter you received from the Independent Community Bankers of America that questioned credit unions’ tax exempt status and support of their communities. This letter contained inaccurate and misleading assertions about Minnesota credit unions that deserve a response.May 23, 2012
I'm just sayin' - Beam me up, Scottie
“Beam me up Scottie, there’s no intelligent life down here.” This was the famous line uttered by Captain Kirk from the TV series Star Trek in the 1960s. Captain Kirk and a team of explorers had been “beamed” down to an unknown planet to search for life. Folks my age remember it.By DuWayne Paul, Columnist , May 23, 2012

Thumbs Up and Down – Views by the Echo Press May 18, 2012
Thumbs Up: It’s refreshing to see young people getting involved in politics. It's Our Turn: The blissful sound of silence in a noisy world
What’s your favorite sound? I have a lot of them. The one I hear right now as I write this is the quiet, gentle song of the wind chimes on my front porch. But to be honest, quite often my favorite sound is silence.By Tara Bitzan , May 18, 2012
Column - College students eat lots of Ramen noodles
I call them the "Ramen Shoppers." They never fail to fill me with sympathy and sadness. You can see them in the grocery stores of all college towns. They are typically between the ages of 19 and 24. Pushing their grocery carts down the aisles, they take time intently pondering the price of this or that item. Sometimes they linger in front of some shelf items with dreamy, hungry looks on their faces.By Dennis Dalman , May 18, 2012

Editorial - A message to ATV drivers
As the weather heats up, so does the season for riding all terrain vehicles (ATVs). But it isn’t all fun in the sun. As with any vehicle, drivers assume a big responsibility when they turn the key. From 2007 to 2011, 82 Minnesotans were killed in ATV accidents. More than one-half of the fatal accidents involved an ATV rolling over, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR).May 16, 2012

Commentary - Credit union debate a matter of equity
Someone in the press should be looking into questions such as these. An analogy would be if Chrysler and GM were allowed to offer any kind of vehicle to the general public – subcompacts, compacts, sedans, SUVs, etc., but they had to pay taxes on the cars they sell. However, Ford could only make sedans, nothing else, but, in exchange for the restriction, it would not have to pay taxes on the sedans they sellMay 16, 2012
Letter - God's plan for marriage hasn't changed
There is a difference of opinion of what can be called a marriage. Who started marriage? God did. He created one man and one woman and blessed their union and His plan has not changed.May 16, 2012
