Park Rapids alums take part in captain’s rescue from pirates
When Somali pirates hijacked the U.S. cargo ship Maersk Alabama and took its American captain hostage, the Navy destroyer USS Bainbridge arrived on the scene, with Park Rapids alumni Luke Potter (1999) and Doug Safratowich (1995) among the crew members.

Former Lake Park area resident Gordy Gunderson, 82, of Casselton, N.D., passed away on Friday, January 23, 2009 at Bethany Homes in Fargo.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26 at the West Funeral Home in Casselton, with a 7 p.m. prayer service; and continues for one hour prior to the start of services Tuesday at the church.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27 at Martin's Lutheran Church, Casselton, with burial in the Casselton Cemetery.

Douglas P. Lund, 55, of Lake Park, died Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at his home.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16 at the David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, with the Rev. James Clausen officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Tuesday. Interment will be in the Kingo Lutheran Cemetery, Fosston.
