Science fair winners named
A total of 285 elementary students exhibited their projects at three elementary science fairs sponsored by School District 206 recently.
The fairs, held in mid-November at Lincoln, Woodland and Voyager schools, were organized by School District 206 Gifted and Talented (Quest) Program coordinators Dave Harstad and Pam Pearson.

Jackson takes part in duck banding
Students from the University of Minnesota, Crookston assisted staff at the Agassiz National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) banding ducks as part of a nationwide effort to assess the survival and migration patterns of waterfowl in North America.
Zachary Jackson of Alexandria, a senior natural resources management major at Crookston, was one of the students taking part in the project.

JHS Math League begins season with first place win
The Jefferson High School (JHS) Math League team finished in first place with 64 points at its first meet on Monday, November 7.
The team competed against Bemidji, Detroit Lakes, Fergus Falls, Breckenridge, Thief River Falls, Moorhead and Roseau.
Alexandria’s top individual scorer for this meet was Ben Tollefson with eight points. He was followed closely by Kalli Bowser, Ted Deitz and Will Sieling who each scored seven points.

An all-you-can-eat waffle supper is scheduled at Carlos Elementary School on Thursday, December 1 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The Evansville Lions Club conducted its annual International Peace Poster Contest at the Evansville Elementary School. This year’s theme was “Children in Peace.” Evansville Lions Club President, Ron Buse, awarded certificates and cash prizes to the winners in Brian Perleberg’s 6th grade class.

Awesome aprons workshop offered to youth grades 5 and up
The Douglas County Historical Society (DCHS) and Douglas County 4-H will offer a hands-on workshop where participants will sew an apron and learn the history behind aprons.
The workshop is Tuesday and Wednesday, November 15 and 16 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the DCHS, 1210 Nokomis in Alexandria.
