Reported new cases of HIV infection in Minnesota reached 326 in 2008 compared to 325 new cases in 2007 and 318 cases in 2006, according to a new report from the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), “HIV/AIDS Surveillance Report – 2008.”
AIDS hasn’t gone away.
It killed an estimated 17,000 people across the nation last year and has killed about 566,000 in the U.S. since it began. (These are corrected numbers from an earlier version of this story.)
Rural AIDS Action Network (RAAN), the nonprofit organization working to raise awareness and prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS in Greater Minnesota, is encouraging at-risk rural Minnesotans to receive free, confidential HIV testing and counseling as part of the summer “Take the Test. Take Control.” public health campaign.
