North Dakota State University’s (NDSU) Wind Symphony will present a concert on Saturday, March 9 at 7:30 p.m. at the Discovery Middle School auditorium in Alexandria. The concert is free and open to the public.
University of Minnesota, Morris’s new wind turbine will be dedicated on Saturday, September 24 at 3 p.m. Several events are planned in conjunction with the celebration, including a pre-dedication 2K walk, an exhibition of artwork created by area elementary and high school students, and a post-dedication picnic. All activities are free and open to the public.
A report released today by the Center for Rural Affairs, Connect the Dots: Transmission and Rural Communities, finds that expansion of the electric transmission grid is key to a clean energy future. And an improved grid is necessary to bring more wind energy online, creating rural jobs in both transmission and wind industries.
A Senate committee took no stand Thursday to restrict wind power farms. A bill by Sen. John Howe, R-Red Wing, said there is only a remote chance that his bill requiring that wind turbines be a half mile from property lines will pass this year, but a task force likely will discuss the issue before next year’s legislative session.
