Douglas County commissioners were presented with the Blue Ribbon Award at Tuesday’s county board meeting. The honor is given to counties and tribes that have exhibited excellence in efforts to prevent child abuse and neglect.
Mother knows best when it comes to the literal law of the land. A public hearing regarding nature’s reclamation of wetlands in County Ditch 23 opened Tuesday’s Douglas County Commissioners’ meeting. Commissioners also approved bids and accepted grants.
If economic recovery can be measured by an increase in housing additions, we’re feeling much better. Douglas County collected $219,057 in permit fees for 2012; 11 percent more than in 2011. In fact, all but one category saw an increase. Preliminary plats are still lower in comparison with the five-year average.

On March 26, 2013 the Douglas County assessor and auditor/treasurer offices will be sending out nearly 30,000 assessment notices and tax statements. Property sales from October 1, 2010 through September 30, 2011 affect the 2012 assessed values for the taxes residents will see on their payable 2013 tax statements.
