For the first time in five years, the number of traffic deaths increased in Minnesota.
Crashes killed 378 people in the state in 2012, according to preliminary reports from the Department of Public Safety (DPS) Office of Traffic Safety.
In 2011, 368 people died in crashes on Minnesota roads.
Minnesota State Troopers have been very busy throughout the New Years Eve weekend. From the time the winter storms started on Thursday, December 30, 2010 until today, Monday, January 3, 2011, troopers in the west central and northwest regions responded to approximately 621 vehicles that had ran off the road, many of those receiving minor damage.
Ten Minnesotans, including seven teenagers, were killed in three separate crashes this weekend in Cambridge, Winona County and Onamia. In addition, two teenagers remain hospitalized as a result of those crashes, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
