Douglas County commissioners were presented with the Blue Ribbon Award at Tuesday’s county board meeting. The honor is given to counties and tribes that have exhibited excellence in efforts to prevent child abuse and neglect.
The Sauk River Watershed District (SRWD) presented it’s 10 year report to update Douglas County commissioners on the progress of improving water quality in area lakes and rivers. SRWD Administrator Holly Kovarik explained that by law, watershed districts are required to have a 10 year plan.
Asking for help is frustrating, especially when you aren’t speaking the same language – literally. Douglas County Social Services recognizes this hurdle with a limited English proficiency component added to the 2013 Civil Rights Compliance Plan. Spanish has been identified as the non-English language most likely to be spoken in Douglas County.

Douglas County commissioners approved a conditional use permit for John and Kathleen Bakken to operate a water therapy and grooming business for dogs in Millerville. The planning and zoning commission was unanimously not in favor of a conditional use permit to allow horses in the residential shoreland zoning district on Susan and Bennie Hedstrom’s property in Hudson.
