The Alexandria City Council will have a new look when it convenes in 2013.
Sara Carlson, who has been serving as Ward 2’s council member, will be the new mayor. She defeated Mark Pederson in Tuesday’s election by a margin of 3,771 votes to 2,216. Incumbent Mayor Dan Ness is stepping down from the council.
Eight residents raised questions about a massive $8 million waterline extension project the city is doing over a three-year period as part of its phase 4 orderly annexation agreement with Alexandria Township. The newly annexed area affects about 1,500 residents who became part of the city in January.
Two big projects totaling more than $10 million came before the Alexandria City Council Monday night.
Although there were concerns about cost, both projects inched ahead.
The council unanimously accepted a feasibility report that examined the cost of extending city waterlines into the newly annexed “phase 4” annexation area of Alexandria Township.
The estimated price tag: just over $8 million.
