It started out as a silly little thing.
Last year, an informal group of adult organizers, including Craig McMillan of Alexandria, just wanted to do something fun and different for the community during the holidays.
A Christmas tradition of more than 30 years greeted both children and adults this past Saturday night as actors and actresses from churches around the area presented the Living Nativity in front of First Lutheran Church on Douglas Street.
The Christmas season officially kicks off in Alexandria this Friday with the “Christmas in the Fort” event.
That’s when Santa and Mrs. Claus will visit the Runestone Museum and flip the switch to turn on the Christmas lights on Broadway.
The gates for the free event will open at 3 p.m.
When does the Christmas season officially begin in Alexandria?
When Santa Claus turns the holiday lights on along Broadway, of course!
Santa and Mrs. Claus will visit Alexandria on Friday, November 23 to share in the fun at the annual Christmas in the Fort event at the Runestone Museum’s Fort Alexandria.
