More than 25,000 volunteers across the nation, including 15 in Alexandria, will give away half a million free books in more than 6,000 towns and cities for World Book Night (WBN) U.S. on Tuesday, April 23.
On Thursday, February 7 at 7 p.m., the 2013 Community Read, One Community, One Book, will feature a presentation by Minnesota Crime Wave on Dashiell Hammett’s novel The Maltese Falcon. This free event will be held at the Douglas County Library meeting room in Alexandria.
A conference for adults concerned with helping youth find involvement and satisfaction with the best books have to offer will be held April 11 – 13, 2013, at Ruttger’s Sugar Lake Lodge Resort, Grand Rapids.
2012 marks the 23rd year that the Alexandria Area Branch of American Association of University Women (AAUW) and Community Education District 206 are sponsoring Project Bookshelf.
New children’s books are being collected and redistributed through the Jaycees Jingle Bells program.
