A lot of hay over zoning in Douglas County
Pups in Millerville Township have a new spa but horses in Hudson won’t be gaining ground. Douglas County commissioners approved a conditional use permit for John and Kathleen Bakken to operate a water therapy and grooming business for dogs in Millerville. The planning and zoning commission was unanimously not in favor of a conditional use permit to allow horses in the residential shoreland zoning district on Susan and Bennie Hedstrom’s property in Hudson.

The Coast2Coast prescription drug savings program has continued to increase in popularity since implementation this fall. At the December 11 county commissioner’s meeting County Auditor/Treasurer Char Rosenow said that the county received its second royalty check, $102.50, for participation in the program.

Seven Douglas County families can resume their lives as usual without fear they are losing a source of income. Douglas County commissioners voted on whether or not to turn the license bureau service over to the state at Tuesday’s meeting. In a three-to-two vote, the motion failed.

We know that without a supportive community we could not possibly do our jobs. Advocacy is not the work of a few, but the concerted effort of an entire populace. We all need to do our part to support victims of violence, to stand up to the bullies and let them know we will not tolerate abuse in our community.
