State seat belt compliance continues to climb but Douglas County region lags
Minnesota’s new seat belt compliance rate is 93.6 percent, marking another increase in belt use which has resulted in fewer unbelted deaths, according to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS) Office of Traffic Safety. DPS conducted its annual observational belt use survey in June.

School District 206 awards more contracts for new high school
At its regular meeting on August 20, the Alexandria School Board took action to accept several bids for Bid Package 2 of the new high school project. The contracts for work such as footings and foundations, precast concrete, structural steel, and laminated construction material came in approximately $82,000 less than the $6.2 million estimate for Bid Package 2.
