While we appreciate Governor Mark Dayton’s willingness to put out a budget plan to address the state’s financial troubles, we have serious concerns about one part of it: placing a new 5.5 percent tax on advertising. It’s just not a good idea.

Lawmakers aim to curb bullying in schools
A rural Minnesota woman said if some schools had better programs and plans to deal with bullying, her son might not have killed himself. “I believe that my son’s unbearable pain and sadness was preventable,” Ann Gettis of Kenyon told a state Senate committee Tuesday. Her son, Jeremiah, shot himself in 2006 after years of being bullied at school, she said.
