Echo Press wins 23 awards in state contest
The Echo Press received the second most points in the Minnesota Newspaper Association’s annual contest among all non-daily newspapers in the state. For the second straight year, the Detroit Lakes Tribune, another Forum Communications Company newspaper, accumulated the most points, 86, to win the prestigious Mills Trophy. The Echo Press was next with 82 points, winning the Herman Roe Editorial Writing Award competition, six additional first place awards, six second place awards and 10 third place awards.

Commentary - That pesky Constitution wasn't mentioned in Dalman's column
The column contained plenty of insults and ridicule directed at those who might have a different viewpoint. The radical left would be so proud of Dalman’s clever mastery of those Saul Alinsky tactics of intimidation. Alinsky himself would have marveled at his ability to avoid references, evidence and facts to support his emotional outrage.

As need increases, funding for SNAP decreases
As the Minnesota Nutritious Food Coalition was celebrating its first year of working to increase participation in the state’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the federal government was in the midst of plans to decrease funds that support the educational component of SNAP. More than 500,000 Minnesotans receive nutrition assistance benefits each month.
