It's Our Turn: Walking by Myself
Ever since I can remember, I have always loved walking in people’s footsteps. My whole life has been a big game of follow-the-leader.

Column - Vicious invasion makes me a prisoner
Ever since the invasion began 10 days ago, I have become a virtual prisoner of my house. As soon as I go outdoors, they attack like kamikaze pilots from Hell. The invaders, I finally learned, are called "false Japanese beetles."

Column - The immortal Marilyn
If any movie star has a good grip on immortality, it's got to be Marilyn Monroe. Instead of moldering into oblivion as most "stars" eventually do, Monroe is more popular than ever these days. Last year, an entertaining movie, My Week with Marilyn, was released with a knock-out performance by Michelle Williams. This week a book with some never-before-seen photos has been released by the great Monroe photographer, Lawrence Schiller. Monroe-mania is perennial, neverending.

Feldmann selected to Winona State Hall of Fame
Alexandria’s Carol Feldmann doesn’t think of herself as a reformist for women’s athletics during her days at Winona State University, but there is no doubt her recent honor is an indication of the impression she made on the school.

COUNCIL UPDATE: Big plans for The Wharf, housing near new school
Two big developments are seeking a little tax help from the city of Alexandria. One would renovate the former bar-restaurant, The Wharf, into Zorbaz on the Lake – a $1.7 million project. The other one calls to build two, three-story 63-unit apartment complexes on the east side of Knute Nelson’s Grand Arbor development along Pioneer Road in south Alexandria – a project that would add about $8 million worth of property value.

Editorial - Welcome, summer visitors! We're glad you're here
Another summer is out there, waiting to be filled with all kinds of fun, shared experiences and opportunities to remember for a lifetime. Although the calendar pegs the official start of summer as June 20, in the Alexandria lakes area, we all know it’s really Memorial Day weekend. That’s when the lakes awake and the area starts hopping with activities.
