Are high school students the answer to worker deficit?
The complete package. That is what Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU) Chancellor Steven Rosenstone said employers expect of graduates. There is no evading a high demand to fill vacant manufacturing positions, especially in our region of the state. Communication skills, a firm grasp on the English language, teamwork and problem solving skills are sought by today’s employers.

If you’ve been listening to your trusty old police scanner you may be missing something – half the action. Douglas County has started broadcasting on a new digital frequency and some information isn’t picked up by analog scanner units. Once the county goes completely digital, analog scanners will find a new home, in the recycling bin.

Caring for those who care for you
When Rodney Felber talks about how much his illness costs, he’s doesn’t mean money. He’s talking about independence. “It’s hard when you are used to doing everything yourself and you can’t do that anymore,” he said. Luckily, he has a caregiver. But she doesn’t even realize that’s what she is.

Is artificial lighting drowning the night sky? Residents in Douglas County have noticed something missing – stars in the nighttime sky.
