It's Our Turn - Chocolate-gilded barbarities
I bite into a fresh-from-the-oven brownie. The warm aromas are enticing; I taste the sweet chocolate, the light texture and the child slavery. Wait, what? Slavery only exists in history books, right? It ended with the Civil War, right? Wrong.

Editorial - Expecting moms getting mixed messages about alcohol dangers
If you’re an expecting mom and think that it’s OK to have a little alcohol during your pregnancy, you should think twice before tipping that drink. The Minnesota Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (MOFAS) is concerned that a recent research study from Denmark gives women a mixed message. The study states that low to moderate drinking of up to eight alcoholic drinks per week is generally safe for the developing baby. MOFAS disagrees. It believes there is no safe level of alcohol during pregnancy.

In welcoming the huge crowd that gathered in the sweltering heat inside Jefferson High School’s gym for Sunday’s graduation ceremony, science teacher Thomas Smith joked that the event was the hottest ticket in town. Editorial - Remember lakes when repairing your driveway
Seal coating makes old asphalt look new and protects its surface, but there are serious environmental concerns with its use. Seal coat comes in two basic varieties: coal tar-based and asphalt-based. The coal tar variety is more resilient, but it contains much higher levels of a class of chemicals called PAHs (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) that harm fish, and with prolonged exposure, pose a risk of cancer in humans.
