Fashion fans were rocked and shocked at the second annual Construction Couture runway show in Alexandria on Thursday. It started like something out of Oz and ended with everybody awed. Dorothy, the Tin Man, Lion and Scarecrow were there. Big Ole and Elvis starred as well. But it was the final performance by Lady Gaga Megalicious that really popped.

A lot of questionable decisions were made in the 1960s. Was introducing the antibacterial agent triclosan one of them? The antimicrobial ingredient was first used decades ago in Dial soap and pesticides. It can now be found in personal care products, housewares, toys and Lake Winona in Alexandria.

The ghost of assessment past: Why your taxes are high when land value is low
The past will come back to haunt you. In the world of property assessment, two years in the past directly affects the present. On March 26, 2013 the Douglas County assessor and auditor/treasurer offices will be sending out nearly 30,000 assessment notices and tax statements. Property sales from October 1, 2010 through September 30, 2011 affect the 2012 assessed values for the taxes residents will see on their payable 2013 tax statements.
