Column - Today's kids, sadly, have no outdoor theaters
Sometimes I feel sorry for young people who are growing up deprived of the experience of going to an outdoor theater. That was one of the joys of my young years — going to the “Cloud.”

Column - Two thumbs up for Roger Ebert
News of Ebert’s death last Thursday left me sad but launched a wave of good memories. For so many years, one of my weekly-ritual popcorn pleasures was to watch Siskel and Ebert at the Movies with hosts Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert. Many times, I actually made a big bowl of popcorn to enjoy while watching that show.

Lawmakers aim to curb bullying in schools
A rural Minnesota woman said if some schools had better programs and plans to deal with bullying, her son might not have killed himself. “I believe that my son’s unbearable pain and sadness was preventable,” Ann Gettis of Kenyon told a state Senate committee Tuesday. Her son, Jeremiah, shot himself in 2006 after years of being bullied at school, she said.

Letter - Taxes and benefits -- who's got rocks for brains in their heads?
Listening to the blizzard of down and dirty TV campaign ads candidates use against one another, it becomes readily apparent that we the electorate have to make a decision as to which reprehensible character we most want to lead our glorious country into a despairing future.
