Diana Culp’s letter (September 12, 2012) was a cynical attempt to confuse readers about the breadth of efforts to protect animals. Supporting the Lakes Area Humane Society and helping animals in shelters is a core value of the humane movement.

Happy trails to users
Those walking along the Central Lakes Trail near Big Ole Central Park may have been wondering what’s up with the skinny new building that started to take shape there earlier this summer. It’s a new shelter kiosk trailhead – the first of its kind to be constructed on the 55 miles of the Central Lakes Trail.

Letter - Pet owners need to be responsible
There is a law against letting domestic animals run at large. In a nutshell, it means if the animal belongs to you, you are responsible. What does responsible mean? You provide food, water and shelter. That’s the least you can do, but that doesn’t go far enough. We must not and cannot expect others to watch out for our pets.
