  • Sergeant First Class Michael Hafner was the honorary flag raiser at the August 10 Minnesota Twins vs. Tampa Bay Rays game at Target Field. At the start of every Twins home game, a member of the U.S. military is honored by raising the flag during the singing of the National Anthem. This photo, taken by Pryce Score of Kensington, shows Hafner on the large video screen above the ballfield. The son and grandson of Navy sailors, Hafner enlisted as an infantry soldier in the U.S. Army in May of 1997 on his 19th birthday. For five years he served with the 3rd Infantry Regiment, Delta Company as a member of the ph Old Guard in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC. There, he helped perform hundreds of state funerals to honor fallen heroes, served as official escort to the President, and served as a first responder at the Pentagon during the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. Currently stationed as a 79-Romeo in the U.S. Army Recruiting Command 3rd Brigade, Minneapolis Battalion, Brainerd Company, Hafner has consistently been recognized for his recruiting efforts and the care he takes with future soldiers.
