Rollin Krautkremer, 87

Rollin A. “Kraut” Krautkremer, 87, Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and family on Friday, October 26, 2012 at Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital in Grand Rapids.

Rollin A. “Kraut” Krautkremer, 87, Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and family on Friday, October 26, 2012 at Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital in Grand Rapids.

Rollie was born in Mankato in 1925 to Lawrence J. and Agnes G. Krautkremer. He graduated from Mankato High School and soon after joined the U.S. Army. He fought at Omaha Beach in Normandy. Rollie was captured in France and held in a German prisoner-of-war camp until liberation.

Upon returning to Mankato, Rollie met and married Millie M. Muellerleile in 1947. Rollie and his father, L.J., were home builders in the Mankato area until 1965, when he and Millie bought a fishing resort and campground in Alexandria. After retiring, they spent many winters in Yuma, Arizona.

Rollie was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Leon.

Rollie is survived by his wife, Millie; six children, Karen Melchior, Nancy (Lloyd) Hudson, Kevin Krautkremer, David (Terry) Krautkremer, Mary Jo (Ed) Kephart, and John Krautkremer; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorials are preferred to the Second Harvest Food Bank in Grand Rapids.

Visitation is Monday, November 5 from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grand Rapids, followed by full military honors. Fr. Drew Braun will officiate.
