Harvey was born in Morgantown, West Virginia on March 1, 1933 to Lloyd and Lila (Harvey) Thurston. During his life, he lived in Morgantown, West Virginia, Gainesville, Florida, St. Paul, Minnesota, Syracuse, New York, Faribault, Bloomington, Rosemount, Apple Valley, Brooklyn Park, Brooklyn Center and Alexandria.

He graduated from Faribault High School in June 1951 and furthered his education at the Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis and at the St. Paul Public Schools four-year night school program in transportation and traffic management.

On June 15, 1957 he married Lorraine Hamann of Neistrand, Minnesota.

Harvey’s working career was spent in the transportation field with industry and trucking companies as an assistant traffic manager and freight rate analyst.

On January 10, 1981 he married his second wife, Dorothy Nokleby Schaller of Montevideo.

Harvey spent 32 years in the Boy Scout program; in his youth as a Cub and Boy Scout and, as an adult, Scoutmaster of Troop 400 Richfield and Troop 328 Bloomington. He completed the Wood Badge Scout training, the most advanced training available to Scout Leaders. While with Troop 328, eight of his Scouts earned their Eagle Scout awards.

He was a member of the Minnesota Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. His compatriot is Edward Paine, Waterbury’s Regiment, Miltona.

His main interests were his family, all sports, travel within the U.S., RV camping, his grandchildren, and living at the lake. After retirement, he enjoyed his fun part-time job as a special events usher for Sims Security, working Twins, Vikings and Minnesota High School League events. The best part of that job was in 1991 when he worked the Twins World Series home games, the Washington-Buffalo Super Bowl and the Final Four basketball games.

Harvey was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; sons, Jon (Wanda) Thurston, Bruce (Michele) Thurston, and Paul Thurston; sister, Pat (Gerald) Michaelson of Dawson; brother, Dr. Gordon (Judy) Thurston; stepdaughter, Dorian (Perry) Chalmers; three grandchildren and one great-grandson.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 23 at Emerson Congregational UCC Church of Richfield. Interment will be at Acacia Park Cemetery of Mendota Heights.
