Dorothy was born June 12, 1931 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the daughter of Joel and Stella (Fritz) Anderson. She attended school in Sioux Falls, graduating from high school in 1949. After her schooling, Dorothy worked as a secretary for the veterans affairs office in Sioux Falls.
In 1953, Dorothy was united in marriage to Roger Cook. Roger and Dorothy were blessed with four children. Dorothy was a homemaker while her children were growing up. She was an active volunteer in her church community, always willing to serve. After her children were grown, Dorothy worked as a nursing assistant at a Hospital and later at a nursing home.
Dorothy will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a generous woman who was happiest when she was in service to her family and community. She was loved and will be missed by all whose lives she touched. Dorothy was always pleasant and always grateful for her caregivers over the past 10 years.
She is survived by her husband, Roger; sons, Bruce (Vicki) of Indian Shores, FL, Dan (LaRae) of Alexandria, Steve (Marie) of St. Cloud; daughter, Cheryl Glad (Lori) of St. Joseph; three grandchildren, Amy Cook, Sara Cook, Michael Wesely; sister, Connie (Merlyn) DeBoer of Lake Okoboji, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service celebrating Dorothy’s life was held Monday, October 1 at Anderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Andrea Olson officiating. Burial was at Evergreen Cemetery.
