Dolores “Dee” B. Midboe, 87, died September 12, 2012 at Bethany Home in Alexandria.
Dee was born October 2, 1924 in Fargo, North Dakota, the daughter of August and Esther (Braaten) Berg. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith and confirmed at the Olivet Lutheran Church in Fargo, where her parents were charter members.
Dee graduated from Fargo High School in 1942 and completed her studies in music and English at Concordia College in 1946. She then began her teaching career in Springfield and then Wheaton, where she met Melvin Midboe. They were married in Fargo on June 18, 1949.
The couple spent a short time in New Brighton and Morris before moving to Alexandria in 1962. During her years in Alexandria, Dee taught piano lessons in her home. She was always proud of her students’ performances with the Minnesota Music Teachers Association, and was a proud and active member of the MMTA. Dee was well known throughout the region as a sought-after piano teacher, and she continued to teach until her 80th birthday.
Dee was very involved in the Alexandria community. She held various leadership offices in Euterpean Club of Alexandria, the Zetetic Club of Alexandria, and was also active in her church home at First Lutheran Church. She played the organ for hundreds of funerals and weddings throughout the years.
Dee loved to travel, and especially cherished her trips to Hawaii, Europe and to Norway. A true Cobber, Dee supported Concordia College and stayed in contact with many classmates.
Dee enjoyed spending time in the lakes area and enjoyed getting on the water whenever she could. When she was a child, her family had a cabin on Pelican Lake near Pelican Rapids, and she remembered fondly her time spent there with family and friends. Dee also enjoyed entertaining and decorating her house for all the different seasons. Dee was an ardent supporter of the Alexandria Area Arts Association and Minnesota Public Radio. She had enjoyed her time at the Windmill Ponds housing complex since she sold her home in 2006.
She is survived by her children, Pam Midboe of Denver, CO, Tim (Sue) Midboe of Carlos, Laurie (Tom) Conzemius of Sauk Rapids, and Jim (Lynne) Midboe of Farmington; grandchildren, Maria Conzemius of Owatonna, Joel Conzemius of Fargo, Nicholas Midboe of Farmington, Allison Midboe of Farmington, Emily Midboe of Farmington, Zachary Midboe of Farmington, Laura Sannes of Minneapolis, and Jonathan (Glenda) Sannes of Minneapolis.
Dee was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin Midboe, in 1986; daughter, Kristi Midboe Sannes, in 1987; and her sister, Elaine Olgeirson, in 2001.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, September 18 at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria with the Rev. Greg Billberg officiating. Music was provided by organist Randy Morken, soloist Patrick Kalina, and the Alleluia Ringers Bell Choir. Honorary pallbearers were Dee’s grandchildren and all of Dee’s piano students from over the years. Interment will be at a later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
