Martha was born March 6, 1937 to Helen and Hershel Walker in Boston, Massachusetts. She was a graduate of LeMars, Iowa, High School in 1954, and of the Methodist School of Nursing in Sioux City, Iowa, in 1957.
Martha married Tom Kohout in September of 1957 in LeMars. They moved to Orange City, Iowa in 1968. While living in Orange City, she was active in Dover Avenue Alliance Church and with Hospice of Sioux County. Tom and Martha have made their home in Alexandria for the past 20 years, where Martha was a member of New Life Chris-tian Church.
Tom and Martha raised five children: Anne (Kohout) VanderHaar – Phil; David Kohout – Lesli; Charles Kohout – Hope; Robert Kohout – Mary; J. Samuel Kohout – Kelly. There are 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Martha was also blessed with a sister, Judy Walker Schroeder and a brother, Donald Walker.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 16 at 10 a.m. at New Life Christian Church in Alexandria with the Rev. John Taplin officiating. If preferred, a donation may be sent to Life Right Outreach – www.liferightoutreach.org – 1906 6th Avenue, Alexandria, MN 56308.
