Marlene was born September 8, 1957 to Fred W. and Laverne (Moske) Hoppe in Parkers Prairie. Marlene was baptized and confirmed at St. James Lutheran Church, South Effington. She also sang in the church choir. She attended District 474 Willow Creek country school and then graduated from Parkers Prairie High School with the class of 1975.
After high school, Marlene moved to Minneapolis and worked at the Society for the Blind. She then went to work for a day care in Coon Rapids before returning to Parkers Prairie. She cleaned for her church, the post office in town and also at local resorts. Marlene wrote two different columns for the Independent Newspaper of Parkers Prairie, the Urbank News and the Miltona News. She kept busy in her free time baking, doing embroidery work and volunteering at St. Williams Living Center. Marlene loved a good book and enjoyed listening to country music. Marlene was a gentle and caring sister, aunt, and great-aunt who will be dearly missed by her family and many friends.
She is survived by her two brothers, Arvid "Butch" (Darlene) Hoppe of Parkers Prairie and Marvin (Denise) Hoppe of Miltona; three sisters, Mavis Schweninger of Elk River, Susan (fiancé, Bill Quinn) Darby of Elbow Lake and Rose (Michael) Steenhoven of Topeka, Kansas; one uncle; three aunts; along with many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Fred and Laverne Hoppe; brother-in-law, Dennis Schweninger; and nephew, Richard Hanson.
Funeral services were held June 26, at St. James Lutheran Church, South Effington with the Rev. Dennis Angland officiating. Music was provided by organist, Judy Rademacher and vocalist, Melva Jean Ruckheim. Burial was at the church cemetery.
Pall bearers were Arvid Hoppe, Marvin Hoppe, Greg Schweninger, Scott Schweninger, Marvin Hertwig and Rudy Castro. Honorary pallbearers were Marlene's sisters and the rest of her family.
