For a short time she worked at Wimpy’s Café in Glenwood. During World War II, Marcella worked at the defense plant in St. Cloud, where she riveted airplane wings for fighter planes. She also worked in Minneapolis. Following the war Marcella traveled to Pierre, SD to pick potatoes but found work as a waitress at a fine dining restaurant near the state capital building. In the early 1950s, Marcella returned to Minnesota and began waitressing at the Log Cabin restaurant in Alexandria.
