Laura was born November 27, 1920 in Aurora, Minnesota, the daughter of John and Vilma (Rannila) Halonen. She graduated from Aurora High School in 1938 and the Minneapolis School of Business in 1939. In June 1941, Laura was united in marriage to Raymond Ahlfors.
In February 1942 the newly married couple moved to Villard, and in 1943 they moved to Carlton. Ray enlisted in the U.S. military in 1943 and upon his honorable discharge in 1946, the couple moved to Alexandria.
During their time in Alexandria, Laura was active in the raising of the couple’s four children. Following Ray’s death in 1998, Laura continued to live in Alexandria until her death.
She is survived by her children, Jim (Linda) Ahlfors of San Antonio, TX, Rob (Nancy) Ahlfors of Villard, and Jeanne (Mike) Andert of Charlotte, NC; son-in-law, Jerry (Pat Huber) Cawley of Brooklyn Park; 12 grandchildren, Christy Hilley, Cathy Christy, Lisa Hedden, Steve Cawley, Jennifer Howell, Jeff Ahlfors, Ryan Ahlfors, Kelly Ahlfors, Melissa Oeltjen, Allan Ahlfors, Evan Andert and Kylie Andert; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Sandra Cawley; and great-grandson, Tyler Hilley.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 26 at First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Marilee Bergerson officiating. Randy Morken and Patrick Kalina provided music. Interment was at Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria with Vern Maack, George Dyrstad, Minton Larson, Manley Johnson, John Swanson and Dave Harris serving as pallbearers.
